Pet Nutrition Counseling

Nutrition plays a pivotal role in your pet’s overall health and well-being. Not only is proper nutrition important, but it also varies depending on your pet’s age, weight and activity level.

At Mebane Pet Clinic, we offer nutrition counseling services specifically tailored to each pet’s nutritional needs.

Fighting Pet Obesity

Pet obesity is a growing problem that will ultimately put the health of your pet at risk. Although many commercial pet foods claim to be healthy options for your dog or cat, the reality is often quite different from the label.

Diet & Exercise Evaluation

During a nutrition counseling evaluation at our vet in Mebane, NC, our staff will perform a brief exam to determine your pet’s current nutritional health. This is typically measured using a body condition scale (BCS), ranging from one (extremely underweight) to nine (obese). Using this scale, our vet will then work with you to determine the best diet and exercise plan to bring your pet to a healthy weight.

Taking into account any special considerations, such as your pet’s breed, age, gender, temperament and any other pre-existing health conditions, our veterinary staff will also discuss how your pet’s nutritional needs are unique and may change over time.

For example, while kittens and puppies need plenty of food to support their growing bodies and high activity levels, senior pets may require special foods to compensate for slowing activity levels and even broader health issues.

At Mebane Pet Clinic, we carry a full line of prescription pet food specially designed to treat pet conditions such as joint and heart disease, obesity, diabetes and kidney and bladder disease.
